NEW!
BETTER WITH AGE: DESIGN FOR AN AGELESS GENERATION
CONVENIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, AND LUXURIOUS REBELLION

Green retirement home logo graphic. The generation who grew up taking care of themselves...the latchkey kids...the “do you know where your children are?” generation...Gen X is hitting 50+. They grew up knowing they’d never end up at Shady Pines like Sophia or their grandparents.

How do we as designers plan and build for a new generation of “Seniors”? With many of us in this bracket, how can the concept of the 55+ community, “retirement” home, and assisted care living be rethought? Vibrant colors, smart design, technology, and flexible ease that encourages an active lifestyle full of luxurious amenities is a good place to start.

In this CEU we will explore this question by presenting the top trends that will guide Active Aging Design into the next decades: Reconnecting with Nature, Redefining Public and Private Spaces, Embracing Technology and Multi-Generational Communities in Urban Environments. We will highlight some examples of the latest 55+ communities that are pushing design boundaries and focus on the creative ways many people are redefining their retirement living with co-op style homes, like “The Golden Girls.” Join us to learn how Hospitality Designers bring along a huge advantage to these projects and beyond.

HIGH DESIGN: DESIGNING FOR A NEW CANNABIS CULTURE

Two image composite. Left image is a green wall face made from botanical elements, right image is a dispensary lobby. On top of both is a small Wall Play cannabis leaf.Presently, over 75% of the United States has adopted the legal use of marijuana for recreational and/or medical purposes. With its emergence from the shadows of the law, it's getting a total makeover. No area of Cannabis culture has seen (or needed) a bigger change than the interiors of dispensaries. Traditionally, they have been non-designed with a low profile. Now, get ready for chic retail lounges that are supported by a multi-billion-dollar industry. This class explores the best practices and considerations when designing today’s modern dispensary. Getting creative with the vibe, we discuss topics including strategic merchandising, the importance of customer privacy, technology considerations, and the significance of the brand experience.
