Custom Plant Infill Case Study

It started with a conversation with Carolyn McCoy from KTGY Simeone Deary Design Group. They were designing an exciting new restaurant in the Sears Willis Tower and wanted groupings of permanent botanicals to fit into the planters behind the seating and elsewhere.

We started with examining the floor plants and elevations. Some of the planters were simple rectangular inserts, but many of them were complex curved designs (sometimes with cutouts) that necessitated doing the infills in sections. With some back and forth including plans and plant options, an overall look was determined. We presented the plans for the infills along with a simple sample section for plant inspiration.

Then we got to work. The simple rectangular infills were straightforward, but the curved designs needed some extra effort. We innovated by using the floor plans to print out at scale templates for us to design on.

This let us create exactly to the specification ensuring a seamless and stress-free installation. The modular sections allowed for efficient and secure packing.

The infills arrived fully styled and labeled letting the client slip them directly into the into the designated planters. The results speak for themselves.
